It is Assembly time!

Years ago, Ololade (my late mother) told me, "You resemble those with whom you assemble." For this reason, among many, I selectively choose where I assemble.

As a young girl in high school in Nigeria, there was a sound you heard, and you knew what event it was. When you hear gbagan! gbagan! And you hear that head boy or head girl, you know what time and event it was. There are all kinds of assemblies, but it is that time for one of my favorite assemblies.

The LSA conference, a beacon of intellectual exchange, is set to commence next week. Spanning from June 25 to 29, this event on the African continent is a unique platform featuring about 200 panels. Over 1,000 scholars and practitioners from 173 international and 110 Nigerian affiliations will participate, physically or virtually. The conference, as always, is designed to be open and accessible to all audiences, both physically and virtually.

Our conference offers a rich array of professional development workshops covering a wide range of topics. From book and journal publishing, academic job hunting, women in academia, teaching pedagogy, fellowship application, and grant writing, to graduate school application and experience, among others, there's something for everyone. We also have roundtables on 18 books that are at the cutting edge of scholarship in the humanities and social sciences, three film screenings, dance performances, and critical-celebratory panels on very senior scholars and canonical works that laid the foundation of newer studies. Dozens of panels on original paper presentations offer new perspectives on a spectrum of fields and subfields.
