Sanhedrin Conference (SC)

This year when I was about to make a significant decision, my friend called and I told her about my decision and how some "elders" have called for a " meeting" to "resolve" the "immediate" issue that triggered my decision. I was skeptical at first but then I thought maybe I should just attend.

Thankfully my friend that can be my voice of reason when my judgement is clouded said "don't let them call a Sanhedrin conference on you".

The concept of Sanhedrin is used to describe an assembly of people who preside on issues. Loosely define ,It is like a court, tribunal, sitting or gathering. Scholars, bible historians and theologians are not in unison about the composition of this assembly. Some suggest it is a composition of Sadducee and Pharisees while some assert otherwise.

A woman cried out about her son who was "allegedly" abused and molested in a "Christian" boarding house and they "allegedly" called for a "meeting" in which she and her husband were told not to involve their lawyer. I am saddened beyond words about this development and with many issue. This year has magnified our pathological propensity or proclivities for SC. Or maybe i have paid more attention to it than ever, More so, I write about this because it involved a minor. SC is a major part of our life but i think we should not extend it to issues that involve minor.

It is a Sanhedrin conference when they choose to sit and talk when action is what is needed. That is why Nigeria has had all kinds of "sovereign" national conferences and yet no action

It is a Sanhedrin conference when the will to act to correct injustice is lacking but the enthusiasm to perpetuate it is real.

It is SC when condemning it is cheap but perpetuating is fun.

It is SC when it is for show, performance and not for equity and justice. Judicial Panel on a "Massacre" this year on my mind.

It is SC when the gathering is about keeping the oppressor comfortable more than righting the wrong

It is SC when the gathering is concerned about the perpetrator more than they are about the victim.

It is SC when the meeting is concerned about blaming the victim and "brain washing" them about what happened.

It is SC when the goal is to silence the victim, dismiss their pain and invalidate their claims.

Have you attended any SC lately? I am tired of SC. Especially when it has to do with minors or even anyone at all.
